Art Gene is an artist-led arts charity based at the Nan Tait Centre on Bath Street in Barrow-in-Furness, formed in 2002 by artists Stuart Bastik and Maddi Nicholson after they established studios in a former technical college building in 1998. It runs an international residency and exhibition programme, hosts a gallery space, and works with artists, ecologists and historians on projects about the town's social and natural environment.
