Chepstow Books & Gifts has traded from 13 St Mary Street for more than twenty-five years, run since 2005 by Matt Taylor, who took over an already-established shop rather than starting from scratch. The shop stocks new fiction and non-fiction alongside cards, games and gifts for readers, with staff picks displayed on tables. It was once voted the top independent bookshop in Wales. Taylor leads a small team who know regular customers by name and order in specific titles on request, a service larger stores rarely offer. The shop sits among the independent traders on St Mary Street near Chepstow Castle, drawing custom from both residents and visitors walking up from the town's medieval gate.
