Harvest FarmShop

Martin Godfrey and Sara Melendro founded this organic farm shop in Okehampton's Red Lion Yard, describing the venture at the outset as an Okehampton food revolution. After two years run by a small group of local organic growers, the shop became a not-for-profit workers' co-operative, incorporated in February 2017 and made up of farmers, educators and others involved in the original venture. The shop stocks organic and locally grown produce alongside other ethically traded goods, and also runs a stall at Hatherleigh market on Tuesday mornings. It sits within a pedestrian shopping precinct in the centre of Okehampton that houses several other independent traders. Profits are directed back into the co-operative rather than to outside shareholders, reflecting its founding as a community-owned alternative to a conventional single-owner shop.
