Robin Palmer, a Gray's School of Art graduate who previously taught pottery in Aberdeen and ran her own studio in Inverness before relocating, opened her current studio at the Orkney Creative Hub on Garrison Road in Kirkwall in September 2012. She makes tableware, lighting and sculptural pieces, drawing forms and colours from the sea, sand and land around the islands, alongside recurring pieces such as her Spiral Spindrift candle holder. The studio runs two-hour pottery taster sessions covering wheel-throwing, hand-building and tile decoration, open to complete beginners as one-to-one lessons or small groups of up to six; a single session costs seventy-five pounds, with thirty pounds for each additional person. The studio itself keeps limited public hours, open Monday, Thursday and Friday mornings, with visits by appointment outside those times.
