The Old Bakehouse is a micropub that opened in September 2021 in a former bakery on Church Street in Welshpool, run as an independent free house rather than a brewery-tied outlet. Four regularly changing cask ales, most from Welsh and border breweries, sit alongside traditional cider, a few keg lines, wines and a small range of Welsh spirits, sold to drink in or take home. In keeping with the micropub idea there are no televisions, fruit machines or jukebox, the emphasis instead on conversation across shared tables. An enclosed courtyard provides outdoor seating, and an upstairs room has a sofa, more tables and a shelf of books. Local and Welsh producers are favoured throughout the short, rotating drinks list.
