Ernespie Farm Shop& Kitchen

Ernespie Farm Shop & Kitchen sits on the Old Military Road outside Castle Douglas, on the dairy farm the McMiken family has worked since 1947. David McMiken now runs the farm with his partner Hollie and his parents Brian and Jane, milking their herd and rearing beef alongside the shop. The Farmhouse Kitchen opened in 2019, serving breakfasts and lunches built around the farm's own beef, milk and cream, and the shop stocks cheese, preserves and gifts alongside a small garden centre and a gelato hut. The farm won Agriscot's Dairy Farm of the Year award in 2019, recognising its dairy management and its move into direct-to-visitor retail and catering. It is open daily from 10am to 5pm, with reduced hours over Christmas and New Year. Ernespie trades as an independent, single-site family farm rather than part of a wider retail group, distinct from Castle Douglas's other farm shops though sharing the same food-town setting.
