Gillam's Tearoom occupies 64 Market Street in Ulverston, where John James Gillam opened a cash and wholesale grocers in 1892. The original shop traded until 1994; his great-great-grandson Doug Gillam and his wife Shirley revived the name in 2006, reopening as a tearoom across the street from the old premises. An adjoining specialist grocer selling organic and local produce followed in 2010. The kitchen uses organic ingredients, many sourced from Cumbrian suppliers, for a menu of traditional tearoom fare: soups, sandwiches, daily specials and a changing selection of cakes. Vegan and gluten-free options are available throughout. The tearoom is licensed and takes orders for local delivery. It opens Tuesday to Friday from 9am to 4pm and Saturday from 9am to 5pm, closing on Sundays.
