Inner Space Records opened in August 2020, in the weeks after the first coronavirus lockdown eased, and has been the only dedicated vinyl shop serving Oldham and Tameside since. Owner Brett Savage, who traces his own musical education to record shops he visited in his native Ashton-under-Lyne, moved the business to its current premises on Uppermill's High Street in May 2023, upgrading from a smaller unit inside a gift shop further along the same street. The shop stocks new and secondhand vinyl across genres, from soul and northern reissues to current indie and electronic releases, with Savage and staff giving hands-on recommendations rather than leaving browsers to sort the racks unaided. It trades from this single Saddleworth village shop, open Wednesday to Sunday, with no other branches.
