Number OneRecords

Number One Records has traded from the Murrayfield Shopping Centre in Larne since 1979, making it one of the longest-running independent record shops in the area. John O'Lynn joined the shop for Christmas cover work in 2004, stayed on as permanent staff and took over ownership in 2014. The shelves hold vinyl, tapes and DVDs alongside t-shirts, ornaments and Warhammer figures, and O'Lynn specialises in tracking down records customers assumed they would never see again. Regulars now bring their own children in, so the shop serves a second generation of some of the same families that shopped there originally. It takes part in Record Store Day each year, stocking exclusive pressings only available through independent shops, with queues forming outside before opening on release day. Conversation over a cup of tea is as much part of a visit as buying a record.
