Pulpo Negro serves Spanish tapas from 28 Broad Street in New Alresford, opened in late 2014 by husband and wife Andres and Marie-Lou Alemany, who had already run the Purefoy Arms in nearby Preston Candover since 2009. Barcelona-born Andres Alemany cooks dishes drawn from across the Spanish peninsula, with jamón ibérico carved to order, croquetas, pulpo a la gallega, and specials that change with the season, while Marie-Lou runs the front of house. The restaurant has held a Michelin Bib Gourmand since 2014, recognising good cooking at moderate prices, and is reviewed in the Good Food Guide. The wine list includes Spanish bottles and sherries alongside a short cocktail menu. Tables sit close together in the tapas-bar style, with a bar area for guests without a reservation. Pulpo Negro opens for lunch and dinner from Wednesday to Saturday and takes bookings by phone or online, drawing diners from across Hampshire as well as from the town itself.
