The Lonsdale Cinema on Lady Street in Annan began as the town's Mechanics Hall and Institute, built in 1852, before being converted into a cinema in 1917. After a spell as a bingo hall, two screens were reinstated in 1999, and a third opened in 2020 in the renovated bingo hall next door. All three screens have full disabled access and induction loops. Beyond first-run films, the cinema screens live broadcasts from the National Theatre and the Royal Opera House alongside occasional concert relays. Free parking is provided for thirty-five cars. It remains family-operated and privately owned, one of the last fully independent local cinemas left in Scotland, with no ties to any multiplex chain.
