The Isbister Chambered Cairn, above the cliffs of South Ronaldsay, is community-owned and run by the South Ronaldsay & Burray Development Trust, with Pentland Ferries as principal sponsor. Farmer Ronnie Simison found the Stone Age tomb by chance in the 1950s; it held bones and artefacts placed some 5,000 years ago. Handle original artefacts at the refurbished visitor centre, then walk about a mile to the tomb via a Bronze Age site. Open daily from 10am, last admission 3.30pm; no online booking.
