Kiln and Grain opened on Commercial Road in Swanage in June 2026, set up by interior designer Andrea Carter and ceramicist Rachael Johns after several months converting the premises. The ground floor operates as a home interiors shop selling curated homeware from small makers, while an upstairs studio hosts pottery classes taught by Johns alongside silversmithing and basket-weaving workshops; the opening fortnight's pottery classes sold out. A bespoke kitchen showroom, built by Paul Carter of Rempstone Joinery, sits within the same building. Guest-maker exhibitions rotate monthly, and further craft classes covering wreath-making, lampshade-making and leatherwork are planned. The shop is a single independent site rather than a chain outlet, and its mix of retail, workshop space and showroom reflects its founders' shared interest in considered, handmade interiors.
