Beachwood Bakery

Julia Cotts opened Beachwood Bakery on Chagford's town square in 2020, baking sourdough loaves, focaccia and a rotating range of pastries each morning using organic, stoneground UK flour. In 2021 the Financial Times named it one of the world's 50 greatest food shops, recognition that followed rather than shaped the way the bakery runs day to day. Ice cream is churned in-house in small batches from Jersey and Guernsey milk, organic cream and free-range eggs, flavoured with seasonal fruit and without artificial additives. The counter also carries cinnamon buns, Bakewell tarts, crumble bars and sourdough sandwiches and wraps made to order, plus seasonal soups. Coffee is served alongside the bakery selection for eating in or taking away. Open Thursday to Saturday, the bakery draws trade from across Dartmoor's northern edge as well as passers-by on the square, and remains a single-site operation rather than a franchise.
