Cliff Ellis has been potting for more than 30 years, a craft he took up after watching his father throw pots and build furniture on their east Devon farmhouse. He trained through an evening course with Margaret O'Rorke and repeated stays at the Leach Pottery before settling into his own gas-fired style, with additional soda firing at a nearby location. His studio sits at 3 Avenue Terrace on Balland Lane in Ashburton, just off the A38, where he makes functional homeware such as teapots and mugs for local businesses as well as running two-hour pottery classes capped at two students per session. Lessons cost £45 and include up to 2.5 kilos of clay, with private one-to-one sessions available on request.
