Dartmouth Boat Hire has operated from a kiosk on North Embankment, opposite the bandstand, since the mid-1980s, hiring self-drive motorboats for trips on the River Dart. The single fleet of ten boats, plus a rescue boat, includes cabin cruisers, open boats and fishing craft in the operator's yellow-and-white livery, each inspected annually by the harbour authority and licensed to carry up to eight passengers. Hire is available by the hour, with a two-hour minimum, by the day or by the week, letting customers explore the estuary between Dartmouth and Totnes at their own pace. The business changed hands in 2024 but continues to trade from the same Embankment site under its established name.
