Peter and Kate Ryder opened their breakfast café on Lower Street on the first of April 1994, and it became Dartmouth's morning institution: cooked breakfasts from seven, a licensed bar, live music at the weekends, and the Captain's Cabin upstairs for staying over. The Guardian put it among the country's fifty best breakfasts in 2017. After three decades the Ryders passed it on — since 2025 it has been run by Andy Green, long the café's manager, with Marilize alongside — and the hours have not moved: seven until two, every day of the week.
