Hafod is Phillip Blanchard's brewery in Mold, started in 2011 on a one-barrel kit in the old gas works and grown, by 2015, to a nineteen-barrel plant — an independent, family-run operation that has become one of Flintshire's established brewers. It brews a core range and opens the taproom for pickups on a Saturday, or by arrangement, from the same industrial yard where it all happens. There is nothing showy about it: a single brewer who built the business up barrel by barrel, and still runs it. In a county on the English border, Hafod is a Welsh brewery worth knowing.
