Helgate Pottery Ltd was incorporated in March 2022 and opened later that year in the Queen of Hungary Yard off St Benedicts Street, after a Kickstarter campaign funded the conversion of a disused shed into a working studio with its own garden. The studio is run by James Wreford and potter Edmund Davies, with teaching from Rachel Kurdynowska and Rollo Timothy George. Members get open access to wheels, glazes and kilns to develop their own work, while newcomers can book wheel-throwing and hand-building sessions without prior experience. The studio also runs evening classes, hosts exhibitions of members' work and takes part in local maker markets, continuing a working ceramics tradition in a part of Norwich that has historically been home to small trades and workshops.
