John Jones & Son trades from Clwyd Street in Ruthin as a family butcher whose roots researchers traced, via North East Wales Archives, to a John Jones recorded as a butcher in the 1921 census, with the family unable to pin down an exact start date any more precisely than that. The shop is now run by Will Jones, the fifth generation of the family to work behind the counter. Meat is sourced mainly from local farms, and the counter also carries fish, free-range eggs and general groceries, along with locally made Patchwork Pâté from a nearby Denbighshire producer. The family commissioned the archive research itself to settle a long-standing question about how long the shop had been trading, turning up ledgers and directory entries rather than a single founding record. A shopfront refit, including new signage, was under way following the research. The butcher trades from a single premises on Clwyd Street and has no branches elsewhere in Denbighshire.
