Bill Cubin spent decades collecting Laurel and Hardy memorabilia before opening it to the public in Ulverston in 1983, the town where Stan Laurel was born. Since Cubin's death in 1997, his daughter and grandsons have kept the museum going, moving the collection in 2009 into the old Roxy cinema on Brogden Street. The building includes the Bowler Bar, a small screening room that runs Laurel and Hardy films throughout the day alongside cabinets of scripts, photographs, costumes and personal letters. The museum opens seven days a week between Easter and the end of October, keeps reduced winter hours, and closes entirely in January.
