Laurence Oxley has traded as a bookshop and gallery from 17 Broad Street in New Alresford since 1950. The shop stocks new titles alongside secondhand and antiquarian books, including rare and collectible editions, and keeps a changing display of nineteenth and twentieth-century watercolours, prints and maps for sale. Picture framing is carried out on the premises, along with cleaning and restoration work on both paintings and books, a service the shop has offered for decades. Shelves cover local history, natural history, fiction and art reference alongside greetings cards and art materials for working artists. The gallery side of the business deals in period watercolours, including work associated with the Birket Foster circle, and staff can advise on valuations and restoration options for pieces customers bring in. The shop is one of the independent traders along Broad Street in Alresford's conservation area, and continues to take mail order and telephone enquiries alongside in-person browsing.
