Le Spice opened on Fore Hill in Ely in 2009, describing itself as the area's first restaurant dedicated to authentic Bengali cooking rather than the anglicised curry-house menu found elsewhere in the county. Spices are imported directly from India rather than bought through UK wholesalers, and dishes such as keema rice and bindi bhaji sit alongside the tandoori standards more familiar to English diners. The tandoor oven at the back of the kitchen is used for both meat and the naan bread served with every curry. The dining room is small and family-run, with recipes handed down within the family appearing on the menu since it opened.
