Millyard Gallery has occupied a High Street shopfront in Uppermill since 1985, when it was established by Joan and John Frost as a combined gallery and picture-framing business. All framing is carried out on the premises rather than sent elsewhere, and the gallery mounts three main exhibitions a year alongside a rotating display of paintings, prints and ceramics from artists working across the North of England. Stock changes through the year, so the walls rarely show the same body of work for long. The shop sits among the other independent traders on Uppermill's main street, in the Saddleworth valley on the edge of the Pennines. It remains family run four decades after opening, with framing commissions taken alongside gallery sales. The gallery is included among the art venues featured in local guides to Saddleworth, and continues to serve both collectors and residents wanting work framed for their own homes.
