Farah Chaudry and Rory McGhie opened Pause in Kings Heath in May 2022, after building a following with pop-ups at Verbena Kitchen, Artefact in Stirchley and Isherwood and Co in Bournville. Farah left a career in law to bake full time, and her Cinnabuffin, a cross between a cinnamon bun and a muffin, has become the shop's calling card alongside filter coffee from rotating UK roasters such as Hundred House and Crankhouse. Rory runs the bar. The pair set out to give takeaway customers somewhere to sit rather than rush off, hence the name. Inside Kings Court, the space shares a courtyard with a bakery and a French patisserie, forming a small cluster of independent food traders behind the high street. Brunch runs Wednesday to Sunday, with a menu that changes with the seasons.
