Plants and Papers opened in May 2021 on Uplands Crescent, founded by Laweza Ali after she identified a gap in Swansea's shops for a dedicated houseplant retailer. Ali spent eight months converting a former vape shop into the single-site store, which now stocks more than fifteen hundred varieties of houseplants alongside pots, cards and paper goods. It was Swansea's first shop of its kind, drawing first-time plant owners as well as collectors after unusual specimens, with staff advising on light levels and care routines. The greenery-filled interior has become a fixture of the Uplands shopping parade, sitting among the area's independent cafés and bars. Ali continues to run the business herself, sourcing new stock and hosting occasional plant-care sessions for customers on weekday evenings.
