Steve Rossiter took over the butcher's shop on Mary Vale Road in 1983, when he was twenty, having started there as a Saturday boy in the 1970s. In 1999 he registered the business with the Soil Association, making it the first and still only organic-certified butcher in Birmingham. The counter carries organic beef, lamb and pork from Midlands farms, homemade pork and Merguez sausages, cured meats and pies made on site, and fresh fish brought in from the wholesale market on Fridays. Rossiter's sausages were named Britain's best by chef Simon Rimmer in 2013. The shop still trades from the same Bournville premises that have housed a butcher's business since the 1930s, and Rossiter donates surplus and proceeds to local hospices. It remains a single-site, family-run operation rather than a chain.
