Smugglers began as sessions in the back room of a Deal pub and a self-funded album with a homemade logo, and grew into the town's musical infrastructure: a King Street record shop, an independent label, an annual festival in the woods, and a bar that keeps the shop honest after browsing hours. Will Greenham runs it with Troy Osmond alongside as the company's other significant name, and the operation remains the rare record shop that manufactures its own stock — the label's releases sit in the racks beside everything else. Deal has become the Kent coast's good-taste capital; this shop is a load-bearing wall of that reputation.
