The HopKnocker

The Hop Knocker is a bottle shop and micro pub on Marshall Terrace in Gilesgate, about a mile and a half from Durham city centre in a residential stretch with few other pubs nearby. The fridges and shelves hold a wide rotating range of craft beer in bottles and cans from British and European breweries, backed by a small number of keg lines and, since February 2023, a handpull serving cask ale. Customers can drink in at a handful of tables or buy bottles to take home. It is independently run rather than tied to a brewery, and food hygiene ratings are held under the operating company's own name. Opening hours are limited across the week, running Wednesday to Saturday afternoons and evenings, closed Monday, Tuesday, and Sunday.
