Haswells Homer Hill Farm Shop sits on a working farm at Rainton Gate, on the edge of Houghton-le-Spring, where the Haswell family have farmed for more than three decades. The butchery is the heart of the operation, run by a third generation of the family whose trade in the North East dates back to the 1920s. Alongside the counter of locally reared meat there is a delicatessen, a general retail shop stocking regional produce, and a coffee shop serving breakfasts, lunches and afternoon tea. Each department is staffed by family members rather than concession holders, and the shop leans on its own farm and nearby suppliers for much of what it sells. Parking is on site, and the coffee shop and shop share the same yard off Pittington Road.
