The Lighthouse micropub occupies a converted café unit at 7 Sea Road in Fulwell, opened by Sean Turnbull after nearly 25 years spent delivering beer for breweries including Vaux and Maxim. It was Sunderland's first micropub when it opened in the centre of Fulwell, formerly the site of Bojangles café, and added extra keg lines during a refurbishment in November 2024. Four handpumps serve cask ales such as Double Maxim and other Maxim Brewery seasonal beers alongside rotating guest ales, with keg lines including a locally rebadged Swedish-style blonde. The pub keeps to the small-room, conversation-focused format typical of micropubs, without music, games machines or television, and is not tied to any pub company. It is run day to day by its founder rather than a managed-house operator, distinguishing it from the area's larger chain-run pubs near the seafront, and sits within walking distance of Fulwell Mill and the Roker seafront.
