Surveyed
Run by volunteers, the Sunderland Maritime Heritage Visitor Centre was refurbished and reopened in 2018 on Church Street East, near the mouth of the River Wear. Display cases cover the town's shipbuilding history with ship models built by Fred Gooch, tools from former yards, and artefacts salvaged from HMS Venerable. Entry is free, though donations are requested, and the centre opens on set days each week rather than daily.
