Alexanders of Markethill has traded from Keady Street since Norman and Iris Alexander opened it as a hardware store in 1954, stocking everything from buckets to gramophones in the early years. Iris built the giftware side, bringing in Wedgwood, Waterford Crystal and Villeroy & Boch, while Norman developed furniture, carpets and bedding. Norman and Iris's daughters, Suzanne Laverty and Johanne Maxwell, took over in 1997 and still run the business as equal partners, with Suzanne's daughter Katie joining as marketing and operations manager in 2020. The store now spans home and giftware, cookshop, interior design, outdoor and seasonal departments, plus a first-floor coffee house reached by lift.
