Muldrews Butchers has traded on Main Street in Markethill since John Muldrew moved the business there from Newry Street in the late 1960s, having founded it in 1930. His son Edsel took over after John's death in 1970 and worked the block for decades, joined for years by his sister Joy, before his own death in May 2026 at the age of 90. The shop still receives meat in full sides and breaks it down on site, a traditional method the family has kept since its earliest days. Tony Marshall, who started as a work-experience student and completed his butchery apprenticeship there, now runs the day-to-day operation, continuing what the family calls the shop's legacy.
