Ardfern opened on Bonnington Road in June 2024 as the third venture from chef Roberta Hall-McCarron, following The Little Chartroom and Eleanore, both located nearby. It operates as an all-day café, bar and bottle shop, serving brunch in the morning, a shorter bar-snacks menu through the afternoon and a fuller evening food offering, alongside a wine list of more than one hundred bottles available to drink in or take away. The bottle shop sells natural and low-intervention wines for home drinking, with online ordering and local delivery on set days each week. The name recalls a village in Argyll and Bute connected to the chef's childhood. The room is small and functional, built around the bar and open kitchen, and trades from morning until late seven days a week.
