Roseleaf has traded from Sandport Place, just off the Shore, since 2007, run by owner Jonny Kane through the changes Leith's waterfront has gone through over the same period. The room is small and crowded with decoration: hats hang from the ceiling and walls carry photographs and paintings by local artists, while menus are printed onto the pages of old National Geographic magazines. Food runs from breakfast through to a full dinner menu with vegan and children's options, served through most of the day rather than at fixed sittings. The bar's best-known feature is its pot-tail list, cocktails mixed in mismatched china teapots and poured out for two or more people rather than measured into a single glass. A solo drinker gets the same mix in a tall glass instead. Table bookings are recommended in the evening, when the narrow room fills quickly.
