Hata

Hata occupies a narrow corner unit on Rodney Street in Canonmills, opened in December 2020 by Andrew Rennie and Agata Rudzka. The name borrows from the Polish word chata, meaning a small cottage, and the room keeps roughly that scale: a handful of tables and a menu built largely around oats. Weekly changing porridge bowls carry homemade toppings, and the kitchen turns out overnight oats and granola made on site alongside brunch plates that draw on Southeast Asian spicing paired with Scottish ingredients. All porridge is made with oat milk. Coffee comes from a rotating guest roaster rather than one fixed house supplier. The pace is unhurried, and the small room fills quickly at weekends, though weekday mornings stay quieter and leave space to linger over a pot of tea.
