Mark and Karen opened Black Dog Coffee Co in 2022, a short walk from the Kennet and Avon Canal wharf on Couch Lane, Devizes. The name comes from Boo, their black cocker spaniel, whose portrait features on the shop's cups and menu boards. Coffee is Mozzo, pulled through the machine behind a counter stacked with homemade cakes and traybakes baked fresh each morning. The couple buy deliberately from other small, family-run suppliers for milk, cake ingredients and hot chocolate rather than going through wholesalers. A narrow outside seating area by the wharf is kept free for anyone walking a dog off the towpath, and regulars are known by their usual order. The shop closes Mondays but trades six days a week, mornings through early afternoon, busier at weekends when canal walkers pass toward the flight of locks.
