Boundary is a co-operative brewery: founded in 2014 by Matthew Dick on the Newtownards Road in East Belfast, it is owned by its members rather than a proprietor or an investor, who get a say and a discount for their stake. It brews a rotating range of modern beers and pours them in a taproom at the brewery, and since 2022 it has also run the charity-owned John Hewitt pub in the city centre. The co-op model is the point: a brewery structured so that the people who drink it help own it. In a trade increasingly consolidated, Boundary went the other way on purpose.
