Sawers has fed Belfast since 1897 — this is its third century on the go — and is the city's oldest delicatessen, set into the Fountain Centre off College Street. Kieran Sloan owns it now, and stocks it like a man obsessed: fresh pollan and smoked eel from Lough Neagh, cheese and charcuterie, Middle Eastern sweets, and game and cured meats you will not find elsewhere in the city. It runs a deli counter, hampers and outside catering out of a small footprint. In a city centre that has cycled through fashions and owners many times over, a food shop that has kept its standards and its address since 1897 is a landmark in its own right.
