Golden Thread Gallery began in 1998 as an artist-led space in a former linen mill in north Belfast, before shifting toward a more audience-focused programme after a later move. Co-directors Peter Richards and Sarah McAvera now lead the gallery from its Queen Street building, taken over in August 2024. The two-floor space holds two exhibition galleries, a projection room, a community participation hub, and Northern Ireland's first dedicated visual art library and archive. Entry is free. Exhibitions mix established and emerging artists, and the gallery runs mentoring sessions that help artists access funding and develop their careers, alongside talks and residencies through the year.
