Corner Bakery has traded from the same corner of Oldtown Street since 1951, when Mr and Mrs Turkington opened it as the Corner Cake Shop. The business passed through three generations of the same family, from the Turkingtons to daughter Ruth and her husband Geordie Anderson, then to their son Timothy and his wife Sharon, before Martin Booth took over in 2021 and renamed it Corner Bakery. Fresh bread, traybakes and pastries are still baked from scratch every day, with recipes carried over from the shop's earlier decades and more than 200 product lines rotating through the counter. No preservatives or additives go into the dough or fillings. The bakery remains one of Cookstown's longest-running food businesses, its awning still marking the same corner it started on.
