Niche Patisserie occupies the Black Gate, a Grade II listed building at 7 Salop Road in Oswestry. It was set up in 2020 by Adam Cleal, a semi-finalist in Bake Off: The Professionals, who runs it as a family business with his parents. The kitchen turns out viennoiserie and artisan breads baked each morning, from croissants and pastries to loaves, jams and granola sold to take home. A cafe side serves speciality coffee, tea and Valrhona hot chocolate, and the team offers a sit-down afternoon tea. Everything is made on the premises by what is currently the only dedicated pastry team in the town. Opening is limited to Wednesday through Saturday, reflecting the small scale of the operation. For a market town of Oswestry's size, it is an unusually specialised patisserie rather than a general bakery.
