The Queen's Own Royal West Kent Regimental Museum has been housed within Maidstone Museum on St Faith's Street since 1960. Its gallery charts Maidstone's local regiment from its foundations in 1756 to amalgamation in 1961, starting with the forebear 50th and 97th Regiment of Foot. Objects include the Sutlej Gun and four Victoria Crosses. Staff and volunteers undertake regimental family history research for a £25 charge; enquiries need an appointment.
