Steven Cronnie Family Butcher operates from 87 Queen Street in Newton Stewart. Steven Cronnie took the Scottish Traditional Steak Pie title at the Scottish Craft Butchers Awards in 2025, beating close to a hundred entries from across the country on the pie's first outing in competition, after already winning the south-west regional heat that year. The pie is built from locally sourced beef, stewed slowly in small batches for two to three hours before the gravy is thickened and a puff pastry lid added by hand. Alongside pies the shop sells beef, lamb and pork, sausages, haggis, black pudding, cold meats, cheese and home baking, most prepared on site. It opens six days a week, closing early on Wednesday and Saturday afternoons and shut on Sunday. The shop remains a single, family-run counter rather than a chain butcher, and the 2025 title is its first national award.
