Amanda MacArthur opened The Highland Weigh on Nairn High Street in January 2022, drawing on childhood memories of the town and a career background in nursing rather than retail. The shop runs as a refill counter, weighing out plastic-free food, toiletries and cleaning products from gravity dispensers, including a dedicated peanut butter grinding machine. A vegetarian cafe operates alongside it, serving organic coffee and simple vegan dishes such as falafel bowls and coconut dahl, heated through the colder months by a wood burner. The business is structured as a social enterprise with a board bringing experience in environmental consultancy and profit-with-purpose ventures. The premises has a step-free entrance and an accessible toilet, and doubles as a meeting space for community groups.
