The Old Inn stands at Flowerdale Glen in Gairloch, on the site of a changehouse built in the 1790s by Sir Hector Mackenzie and originally known in Gaelic as Taigh-Osta Ceann an t-Sàil, meaning inn at the head of the saltwater loch. The geologist and writer Hugh Miller worked on the building as a stonemason in 1832. After decades as the village post office and private housing, the building reopened as The Old Inn in the 1950s, fitted with petrol pumps for the new age of motoring. Today it operates as a single independent coaching inn, serving langoustines, mussels and other locally landed seafood alongside Scottish malts, gins and real ale from Loch Ewe Brewery. Guest rooms include an accessible ground-floor twin with wet room, and the inn welcomes dogs.
