The White Horse Bookshop has traded on Marlborough High Street since 1949, in a building roughly 400 years old spread over three floors. Robert Hiscox and Brian Kingham bought the shop and reopened it in April 2014 after renovation, with author Jacqueline Wilson marking the occasion. The upper floors hold fiction, non-fiction, children's titles and audiobooks, while the basement stocks art materials, stationery and games. A gallery added to the rear hosts exhibitions and events, and the first-floor studio runs day-long art workshops. Independent ownership means staff choose stock by hand rather than following a central buying list, and will order in titles customers request.
