Wagtail Workshop runs hands-on jewellery-making sessions from a studio at Moseley Bank on Moseley Road in Hallow, just outside Worcester. It was set up by James Deakin, a seventh-generation jeweller and gemologist, who teaches visitors to melt, cast, solder, finish and polish their own hallmarked silver or gold into a finished piece, whether a signet ring, a band ring, a pendant or a spoon reworked into a ring. Sessions are deliberately kept to a maximum of two participants at a time, run for around four hours with breaks for tea, and are booked online in advance. Prices start at £245 for one person and £345 for two. The workshop also offers bespoke commissions for customers wanting a piece designed from scratch, and the site includes shepherd hut accommodation for visitors travelling from further afield.
