Black Pig Butchers opened in St George's Passage, Deal, in 2014, run by artisan butcher Lizzy Douglas. The shop sources free-range meat from small-scale, rare-breed farms across Kent and the surrounding counties, and makes its own sausages, dry-cure bacon and black pudding by hand on the premises. The counter also carries seasonal game and home-made pies alongside the fresh cuts. Set in a narrow passage just off Deal high street, the shop has built a following among cooks who want to know exactly which farm their meat came from. Douglas buys directly from producers rather than through wholesalers, so the range shifts with the seasons and with what the farms have available that week.
